Honestly, New Year’s Resolutions are 3 words we all know to be the least successful or least loved words in anyone’s vocabulary. But it doesn’t have to be. The trick is not to put so much of a focus on the fact that these are your ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ (thereby already harbouring some level of impending failure in the back of your mind), but instead, realizing that these are things you actually want to do and keep doing and that you consciously want to be part of your routine life. Here are the most common New Year’s Resolutions that’ll make you feel better about yourself, your life, and everything after you’ve accomplished them by the end of the year!
Run through your list of New Year’s Resolutions and pick out the one that’s most important to you and that you want to accomplish. Imagine that this year has come to a close and you’re looking back. Are you grateful for the change you made and think the sacrifices were worth it? If your answer is “meh”, then drop the resolution.
Feel better, every day.
Small steps in the right direction can make all the difference. Pick out your clothes for the next day, the night before, so you aren’t scampering all around the place and getting late for work. Take a little time every week to make a DIY face mask, deep condition your hair, or organize your cupboard so you can find your stuff easily. If you’re not used to wearing makeup, consider in investing in a few key makeup pieces and using them minimally, just to accentuate your features. Here’s an introduction to Makeup Basics. When you look good, you automatically feel good!
Fitness can be your friend.
Before you scoff and look the other way, think about all the times you tried to commit to exercise or losing weight. More often than not, you probably set the bar a little too high in all your momentary enthusiasm. All of us have done it! But after the initial adrenaline rush and vows of “Whoa! I’m totally running 3 km every day and eating kale chips!”, the fire dies out by the end of the week and you’re back to square one. So, start by setting realistic goals. Try just joining a dance or yoga class or swimming, since those are much more fun ways of losing weight.
At the same time, you don’t have to starve to control your diet. The secret is in eating clean most of the time, and finding healthier alternatives to stuff you like. You can check out some super fun and doable workouts and clean eating food channels here.
Use a cute graphic notebook, a virtual calendar that syncs to all your devices, and memos on your laptop and phone to organize your life. This way you’ll know exactly what you’re doing a few days in advance. Don’t forget to make the time for the important people in your life. Go ahead, slot them in there, too!
Time For Yourself.
Chalk out some time for the most important person in your life- you. Relish your cuppa for a few minutes more in the morning, use an attachable book light to read late into the night, just as you did as a kid, go cycling, cook up a great snack for yourself!
Now, go kick 2016’s butt!
Until next time!
